NEW: Bayern Munich 5-0 Bodo Glimt: Musiala’s Emotional Return Sparks Champions League Rout

Bayern Munich opened their Champions League campaign with an emphatic statement, tearing apart Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt 5-0 at the Allianz Arena. But the scoreline, as impressive as it is, only tells half the story. The real headline belongs to Jamal Musiala, whose return to the starting lineup carried far more weight than any football result.

Bayern Munich 5-0 Bodo Glimt: The Goals

The rout was built entirely in the second half after a frustrating opening 45 minutes in which Bodo’s deep block and impressive goalkeeper Nikita Khaikin kept Bayern at bay. That resistance shattered just two minutes after the restart when Jamal Musiala pounced on a loose ball and blasted home to make it 1-0, a goal that also happened to be Bayern’s 900th in European competition history.

Harry Kane doubled the lead in the 61st minute, heading home a Michael Olise free kick to extend his remarkable streak of scoring in seven straight Champions League matches.

Alphonso Davies volleyed home a loose ball off a corner in the 77th minute for 3-0, before Michael Olise took over completely, scoring twice in the space of nine minutes to complete a 5-0 demolition. Bodo’s misery was compounded when Odin Bjortuft was sent off for a last-man foul with three minutes remaining.

Why Jamal Musiala’s Goal Meant So Much More Than Three Points

Behind the emphatic scoreline was a deeply human story. Musiala had missed two matches after revealing he was dealing with a neurological condition that caused him to collapse during two separate pre-season friendlies.

His return to the starting eleven, and his goal just minutes into the second half, produced a wave of emotion among his teammates, who embraced him in celebration. “Scoring a goal, pure happiness,” Musiala told DAZN afterward. “I just want to perform well again… I just want to get back to my level step by step, playing with a sense of ease, joy, and fun on the pitch.” Harry Kane also spoke warmly about his teammate’s journey, acknowledging that Musiala “had a tough time at the start of the season” before his return to form on the biggest stage.

Bayern Extend Historic Champions League Streak

This win was about more than one match. Bayern Munich extended their extraordinary record of winning their opening Champions League group or league phase match in 24 consecutive campaigns, a run stretching all the way back to 2002. Few clubs in world football can boast that level of consistency on the continental stage, and it reinforces Bayern’s standing among the true heavyweights of the competition heading into another title push.

A Statement Win Against a Dangerous Opponent

It is also worth noting who Bayern beat. Bodo/Glimt were last season’s surprise package, reaching the last 16 and famously knocking out Inter Milan while giving both Manchester City and Atletico Madrid problems along the way. Brushing aside a team with that pedigree, and doing it 5-0 at home, sends a clear message to the rest of Europe about Bayern’s ambitions under head coach Vincent Kompany this season.

The Bottom Line

Bayern Munich’s 5-0 win over Bodo/Glimt was everything a Champions League opener should be: goals, drama, individual brilliance from Olise, and a moment of real emotional significance in Musiala’s comeback. With Kane in red-hot form and their historic opening-day streak still alive, Bayern have sent an early but unmistakable warning to the rest of the competition.

Man of the Match: Olise
