Tottenham Savinho Transfer: Why Spurs Are Sprinting to Beat the Clock

Tottenham’s chase for Manchester City winger Savinho has gone from a summer subplot to the biggest storyline in North London, and the next 72 hours could decide everything.

Savinho Tells Manchester City He Wants Out

The dam finally broke this week. Fabrizio Romano confirmed on X that Savinho has formally informed Manchester City’s board of his desire to leave this summer, with the Brazilian winger craving regular first-team minutes he simply hasn’t gotten under Pep Guardiola. That single message has flipped the entire saga in Tottenham’s favor. Spurs have quietly considered Savinho their top attacking target since May, and now the ball is sitting in City’s half of the court.

De Zerbi’s Master Plan Needs a Finishing Touch

New Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has been refreshingly candid about his rebuild. According to Romano, the Italian has already reworked the midfield and defense this summer and now wants “important players, not normal players” to complete his attack. Savinho, with his blistering pace, tight dribbling, and knack for beating a man in tight spaces, is exactly the profile De Zerbi has been chasing to add unpredictability out wide.

This isn’t a fresh crush either. Tottenham first tried to sign Savinho last year and even agreed personal terms with him back in January before the move collapsed. The interest never actually died down; it just went quiet while Spurs assessed other attacking options over the summer.

The Deadline That Changes Everything

Here’s where it gets tense. Multiple reports indicate Tottenham have issued Manchester City an informal ultimatum: get the deal done before August 1, or Spurs walk away and pivot to alternatives like Antonio Nusa, Cody Gakpo, or Jadon Sancho. Savinho, for his part, has reportedly told City he only wants Tottenham this summer, which strengthens Spurs’ hand considerably.

The fee being discussed sits in the £55 million to £65 million range, with some outlets suggesting Spurs are ready to push closer to £60 million to force City’s hand. Manchester City, notably, have yet to receive an official written bid from either Tottenham or fellow suitors AC Milan, even though talks are said to be progressing well behind the scenes.

Milan Falls Behind in the Race

AC Milan briefly complicated matters, exploring a loan deal with a mandatory £50-55 million purchase option after missing out on teammate Phil Foden. But recent reporting suggests Tottenham have now moved clearly ahead in that particular race, with Milan trailing in negotiations as Spurs press their advantage.

What Happens Next

With Savinho unavailable to play and reportedly nursing an injury, City have avoided any immediate flashpoint, but Guardiola has hinted that “a few things are going to happen” before deadline day. If the August 1 self-imposed deadline holds, expect a resolution within days rather than weeks.

For a Tottenham side already being praised for one of the busiest and most ambitious rebuilds in the Premier League this summer, landing Savinho would be the statement signing that turns De Zerbi’s vision into a genuine title-race threat.
