While the world’s eyes were glued to World Cup quarterfinals this week, Barcelona quietly pulled off one of the summer’s shrewdest transfer moves — and it turns out it’s just the opening act of a much bigger spending spree. Karim Adeyemi is Camp Nou-bound. Julián Álvarez and João Cancelo could be next. And the whole operation is being bankrolled by a €210 million credit line that Barça just secured. Buckle up, Blaugrana fans — this is shaping up to be a proper summer rebuild.
The Adeyemi Deal, Broken Down

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have shaken hands on a deal worth a guaranteed €22 million, with Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger reporting the add-ons are actually closer to €9 million rather than the initially reported €7 million — pushing the total package to around €31 million. Dortmund also cleverly negotiated a hefty 35% sell-on clause, meaning they’ll cash in big if Barça ever flip him for a profit.

Adeyemi, who only had a year left on his Dortmund deal and reportedly turned down an extension because a release clause never got agreed with his camp, will sign a five-year contract through 2031, pocketing €6 million net per season. Crucially, the report says he only wanted Barcelona — no other suitors were ever really in the race.

For a player who racked up 36 goals and 25 assists in 146 appearances for Dortmund, and who started eight matches on their run to the 2024 Champions League final, this is a genuine bargain given his market value has been pegged as high as €40 million. Hansi Flick, who gave Adeyemi his senior Germany debut, clearly sees him as the perfect jolt of pace and pressing intensity out wide — even with Lamine Yamal locked in as the first-choice right-sided threat.
But This Is Just the Beginning

Here’s where it gets interesting. Per Marca, Barcelona have requested a €210 million credit line — structured through what’s called Senior Media Notes and backed by future TV rights income — largely to plug a cash-flow gap created by delays to the Camp Nou redevelopment. While the loan isn’t earmarked purely for transfer fees (some of it covers payroll and day-to-day operations), it’s giving Barça the financial runway to move fast in a competitive market rather than waiting around for player sales to fund every deal.

And the ambition list is spicy. Julián Álvarez remains the club’s number one target to replace Robert Lewandowski up top, with Barça already tabling a €100 million bid against Atlético Madrid’s €150 million asking price — talks are on hold until after the World Cup, but Lamine Yamal has been publicly campaigning for the move, telling Álvarez the club is waiting “with arms wide open.” Meanwhile, João Cancelo’s proposed permanent transfer is reportedly held up by outstanding tax issues that need resolving first.
The Bigger Picture

Add it all up: Anthony Gordon already signed for €70m plus add-ons, Adeyemi essentially wrapped up, and two more marquee names in the crosshairs.

This isn’t just a transfer — it’s Hansi Flick building a squad with real intent to finally end Barcelona’s Champions League frustrations. The summer’s only getting started, and Barça just showed they’re not messing around.
