Former Manchester United’s midfielder, Scott McTominay, has made history as the first Scot to win Serie A’s Player of the Year award. The Scotland midfielder rounded off a brilliant debut season with Napoli with an outstanding performance throughout the campaign. He quickly became one of their key players after a staggering £25 million move from Manchester United last summer.
One of the Scot’s significant contributions to Napoli came as a standout goal in their decisive 2-0 win over Cagliari on the final day, which sealed the club’s triumph. Scot has now joined a star-stressed list of past winners such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo, Kaká and Zinedine Zidane.

The award was issued at the Gran del Calcio, where McTominay was also named in the Serie A Team of the Season. Others who made the top XI were the likes of Denzel Dumfries, Amir Rrahmani, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, Nicolò Barella and Lautaro Martinez. Also, Tijjani Reijnders, who is now at Manchester United and Mateo Retegui, who left Atalanta for Al-Qadsiah, both made the team while Roma’s Mile Svilar and Fiorentina’s Moise Kean rounded up the selection.
Another great recognition on the night was Antonio Conte who received the award for Serie A Coach of the Year.
Napoli’s best investment

While letting McTominay go remains one of Manchester United’s biggest mistakes , the Scot has proven to be one of Napoli’s biggest treasure. Despite rumors of his return to the Premier League, it is very unlikely for that to happen.
Recently, the midfielder has showed his worth with an acrobatic volley last time Napoli featured in the UEFA Champions League, just after an incredible strike that secured a spot for Scotland in the 2026 World Cup.
