William Gomes to Liverpool is the transfer story the Anfield faithful cannot stop talking about. The 20-year-old Porto winger is reportedly high on the Reds’ shortlist, and Porto know exactly what he is worth.
Why Liverpool Need a Right Winger

Let’s start with the problem. Mohamed Salah has left and signed for Trabzonspor, and Liverpool failed to sign a superstar right winger to replace him over the summer.

Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz arrived to bolster the frontline, but Munoz is arguably the only natural right-sided option, and even he may prefer the left. Liverpool have scored only seven goals in their first five Premier League games. Under new head coach Andoni Iraola, the attack still has a hole to fill.
The Porto Price Tag: €100 Million

Porto are not giving him away. Gomes signed a new contract until 2031, and his release clause rose from €80 million to €100 million. A Bola reports that Porto are open to a sale but will not accept a penny less than the clause. That is roughly £85 million.
Who Is William Gomes?

Gomes joined Porto permanently in January from Sao Paulo’s academy. He is a natural right winger, which is exactly the profile Anfield lacks. The numbers are promising rather than explosive. He has two goals and two assists in eight league appearances this season, and he is a key part of Francesco Farioli’s unbeaten, league-leading Porto side.
The Julian Ward Factor

Here is the juicy part. There are claims that sporting director Julian Ward wants Gomes as the first signing of his second stint. Ward knows Portugal well, as he was responsible for bringing Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez to Anfield. Liverpool signed Diaz from Porto in 2022 after hijacking Tottenham’s move. Could history repeat?
January or 2027? The Reports Disagree

Timing is unclear. TeamTalk warns there can be no discounts if Liverpool bid in January. But Sports Mole, citing A Bola, says Liverpool have little chance of landing him at the midway point of the season. Other reports point further ahead, with A Bola suggesting a 2027 move to replace Salah. There is also a showdown on the horizon, as Liverpool face Porto in the Champions League in December.
Is He Worth It?

Some are not convinced. Liverpool.com doubts the club would pay that much for a player outside Europe’s top five leagues. Barcola, Munoz and Rio Ngumoha are also viewed as long-term wing options. Yet Liverpool have already spent more than £100m each on Wirtz, Barcola and Alexander Isak, so the club is clearly willing to back young talent.
Verdict

This is a rumour, not a done deal, and it comes mainly from one Portuguese outlet. My view is that Liverpool will keep watching Gomes closely and decide in summer 2027 whether €100 million is worth the risk. Keep the faith, Reds fans, and bookmark this page for every update.
