NEW: Bayern Munich Survive Osnabrück Scare To Win 4-1 In DFB-Pokal Thriller

Bayern Munich are through, but not without a serious fright first. The Bundesliga champions needed a comeback to see off second tier Osnabrück in the opening round of the DFB-Pokal, eventually running out 4-1 winners after a shaky start threatened to derail their title defence before it even began. If you love a bit of early drama followed by ruthless class taking over, this one delivered on every level.

Osnabrück Stun Bayern With Early Wonder Goal

Just five minutes in, Stadion an der Bremer Brücke erupted. Robin Meissner produced a stunning goal to send the newly promoted second division side into dreamland, capitalising after Jonathan Tah failed to deal with a routine clearance and Meissner outjumped Kim Min-Jae to punish the mistake. For a few minutes, an upset looked very much on the cards, and Bayern fans everywhere held their breath.

Vincent Kompany’s decision to rotate his squad, resting the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, and Joshua Kimmich after their 5-1 demolition of Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, suddenly looked like it could backfire spectacularly against a hungry underdog with nothing to lose.

Bayern Respond In Style

Give Bayern Munich credit though, panic was nowhere to be found. Harry Kane restored order with his first goal of the new season, settling nerves and reminding everyone exactly why he remains the focal point of this attack. From there, the champions took full control. Tom Bischof, proving his worth in midfield after a standout tackling season at Hoffenheim, combined brilliantly with Olise to tee up Luis Diaz for a composed finish that put Bayern 2-1 up at the break.

The second half was academic. Bischof got on the scoresheet himself, Olise added his name to the goal column, and Kane wrapped things up from the penalty spot for his second of the night, sealing a 4-1 scoreline that flattered the visitors far more than the tense opening exchanges suggested it would.

Why This Result Matters For Bayern’s Season

This was more than just another cup tie ticked off the calendar. Bayern Munich are chasing DFB-Pokal glory once again after winning the double last season, beating Stuttgart 3-0 in the final back in May. A shock exit to a third division outfit making its return to professional football would have been a genuine embarrassment, so getting the job done, even after a nervy start, keeps the treble dream alive early in the campaign.

Kane’s involvement is particularly notable. The England striker extended his streak of scoring in seven consecutive DFB-Pokal appearances, matching a record previously held by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, further cementing his status as one of the most ruthless finishers in German football right now.

What Comes Next For Bayern Munich

Kompany’s side wasted no time proving their squad depth even when key names are rested, a promising sign given the packed fixture list ahead. Bayern return to Bundesliga action away at Schalke this weekend before turning their attention to the Champions League against Bodo Glimt shortly after. With five wins from their last five matches across all competitions and sixteen goals scored in that span, the champions look every bit as dominant as their trophy cabinet suggests.

For Osnabrück, there is no shame in this defeat. Pushing the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal champions all the way to five minutes of genuine panic is a story their fans will tell for years. For Bayern, the job is done, the second round awaits, and the treble talk rolls on.
