A former Tottenham fringe player who beat Real Madrid and scored in the Champions League could be Manchester United’s next striker target. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, United are tracking Real Betis forward Troy Parrott, the Republic of Ireland star who has turned heads in La Liga. There is just one problem: the price tag is enormous, and Betis say he is going nowhere in January.
What Fichajes Reported

Fichajes claims United’s sporting management is closely monitoring the 24-year-old, and that scouts have been sent to Spain to watch him live in La Liga and European games. The report says United want fresh attacking options to support Benjamin Šeško, after a rough start in which Michael Carrick’s team have won just one of their first six Premier League games.
Why United Are Interested

Parrott has had a dream start at Betis. Signed from AZ Alkmaar this summer for a fee that could reach 20 million euros, he came off the bench to score the only goal as Betis beat Real Madrid in September, then scored the winner against Lille in the Champions League. He has two goals and an assist in seven games for Betis, and he found the net repeatedly for Ireland in the recent international break.
From Tottenham Prospect to La Liga Star

It is quite a story. Parrott moved from Ireland to Tottenham’s academy in 2017, made senior appearances but struggled to break into the first team, and went on loan to Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston North End. He then moved to the Netherlands, where his career took off. Now, at 24, he is one of Europe’s most watched strikers.
The €80m Problem

Betis tied Parrott to a contract until 2031, and Fichajes says the release clause is 80 million euros, with sporting director Manu Fajardo ready to point suitors to that number. However, other Spanish journalists, including Gonzalo Tortosa and Christian Vaquero, put the clause at 100 million euros. Either way, it is a huge sum for a player valued at around 20 million euros by Transfermarkt.
Will Betis Sell in January?

Almost certainly not. Vaquero posted on X that nothing is happening between Parrott and United or Tottenham for the winter window, and that Betis will not sell him in January. English clubs could return in summer 2027, he added. That fits with Betis’s season, as they are third in La Liga.

What Happens Next?
