Pep Guardiola came home, flat cap and all, and watched his old club get taken apart. On Wednesday, October 14, Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester City 4-2 at the Etihad in City’s first home game since the guilty verdict. Two quick goals and a ruthless first half put PSG out of sight, and even a Haaland double could not rescue the night.
Two Goals in 99 Seconds

City started brightly, and Rayan Cherki appealed for a penalty after a challenge from Marquinhos. Then PSG hit them on the break. In the 13th minute Désiré Doué drove a low shot in from the edge of the area.

Only 99 seconds later he crossed to the far post, where Ousmane Dembélé headed in the second. A promising City start suddenly became a nightmare.
Vitinha Makes It Three

Matvei Safonov punched a City corner against his own crossbar, only for the referee to rule a foul on Marc Guéhi, and Achraf Hakimi headed against the post. Then Vitinha finished a slick move in the 32nd minute for 3-0. It was the first time City had conceded three first-half goals in a competitive home game since 2015.
The Second-Half Fightback

Enzo Maresca made a triple substitution at half-time, and City looked like a different team. In the 53rd minute Iliman Ndiaye’s cross was flicked in by Erling Haaland for 3-1.

PSG answered with their first shot of the half, a 20-yard effort from Maghnes Akliouche that Gianluigi Donnarumma failed to keep out. City kept coming. Joško Gvardiol’s header was cleared off the line, Enzo Fernández hit the corner of post and bar, and Haaland scored again in the 75th minute from Ayyoub Bouaddi’s low cross.
Haaland Makes History

Haaland’s first goal was his 37th Champions League goal for City, passing Sergio Agüero to become the club’s all-time leader in the competition. His second took his overall Champions League total to 61. A record European home crowd of 60,021 saw him denied a hat-trick by a late Safonov save.
Torres Misses a Penalty

Ferran Torres, a former City striker, had a chance to seal the win from the spot after Nunes fouled Nuno Mendes. Donnarumma saved his tame effort, but City could not take advantage.
What the Result Means

PSG now top the 36-team league table, while City drop to 17th with three points from two games. Maresca said City lost their balance after conceding early but deserved more from the second half. Guardiola, back at the club he loves, saw an old friend’s team win.
