Man United vs Man City Preview: Old Trafford Hosts the First Manchester Derby of the Season

Date: December 6th, 2025
Venue: Stadio Guiseppe Meazza (San Siro), Milan
Kick-Off: 18:00pm WAT

Current League Standing & Form

Right now, Inter Milan are sitting in 3rd place in Serie A with 27 points after 13 matches. They’ve picked up 9 wins but suffered 4 losses along the way. What’s interesting is they’re only trailing AC Milan by a single point at the top, so we’re looking at what could be a really tight title race this season. As for Como, they’ve been quite the surprise story—5th place with 24 points from 13 games. Cesc Fabregas has got them playing brilliantly in their first season back in the top division, managing 6 wins and 6 draws with only one defeat to their name.

Recent Results & Momentum

After hitting a rough patch with 2 consecutive losses, Inter have managed to get their rhythm back. Their last league match saw them travel to Stadio Romeo Anconetani and beat Pisa 2-0, with captain Lautaro Martinez grabbing both goals. They didn’t stop there either—the Nerazzurri absolutely dismantled Venezia 5-1 at home in the Coppa Italia, showing they’ve got firepower across all competitions.

Como’s been on an absolute tear lately with 12 matches without a loss. That’s seriously impressive stuff. Their most recent Serie A game ended with them beating Sassuolo 2-0 at home, and honestly, they’re looking like genuine contenders for a European spot, which would’ve seemed crazy at the start of the season.

Head-to-Head Record

History isn’t kind to Como when it comes to facing Inter. The Nerazzurri have won every single one of their 5 previous meetings, outscoring Como 13-2 across those matches.
According to TheHardTackle, the last two Serie A clashes both ended 2-0 in Inter’s favor—one in December 2024 and another in May 2025. Inter kept clean sheets in both games. Here’s a sobering stat for Como fans: they haven’t won at San Siro since 1950. That’s a massive mental barrier to overcome.

Tactical Outlook & Team News

Inter should stick with their tried-and-tested 3-5-2 setup. Yann Sommer will be between the posts, with Manuel Akanji, Francesco Acerbi, and Alessandro Bastoni forming the defensive trio in front of him. Luis Henrique and Federico Dimarco will bomb up and down the flanks as wing-backs, while Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Petar Sucic control the middle of the park. Up front, Thuram partners with Martinez to lead the attack.

Inter aren’t without their problems though. Raffaele Di Gennaro, Denzel Dumfries, and Matteo Darmian are all unavailable, which does thin out their defensive options a bit.

Como gets some good news with Diao coming back from a thigh problem, giving Fabregas another weapon to work with. They’ll probably go with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Jean Butez takes the goalkeeper duties, protected by a back four of Mergim Vojvoda, Diego Carlos, Jacobo Ramon, and Alberto Moreno. Behind lone striker Anastasios Douvikas, you’ll find a creative trio of Jayden Addai, Nico Paz, and Jesus Rodriguez looking to unlock Inter’s defense.

Prediction & Key Factors

Look, there are several reasons to back Inter here. They’ve dominated this fixture historically, they’ve got better players across the board, and they’re playing at San Siro—one of the most intimidating venues in European football. Under Cristian Chivu, they’re playing some of the slickest football in Italy right now, though they have been a bit leaky at the back occasionally this season.

That said, you’d be foolish to write off Como. This 12-game unbeaten run isn’t a fluke—Fabregas has them organized defensively and dangerous going forward. Paz is a real creative spark who could cause Inter’s defense some headaches.

This should be a fascinating match-up. You’ve got Inter chasing the title against Como’s fairytale return to Serie A. While Como have been excellent this year, Inter’s dominance at home, their historical edge in this fixture, and the attacking quality of Martinez and Thuram should make the difference. The Nerazzurri need these 3 points to keep breathing down AC Milan’s neck in the Scudetto race, and I expect them to get the job done.
