Match Result & Performance

The Etihad Stadium witnessed Leeds’ 4th straight defeat, with the visitors falling 3-2 to Manchester City courtesy of Phil Foden’s goal in the dying moments of injury time.
What made the result particularly painful was Leeds’ impressive fightback from two goals behind. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha both found the net to restore parity before Foden’s intervention in the 91st minute shattered their hopes.

The halftime break proved transformative for Leeds’ approach. Farke made bold changes, switching to a 3-5-2 system while introducing Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol into the action. These alterations significantly improved Leeds’ performance after the interval.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the manager voiced his disappointment about conceding an early goal within the opening minute. His frustration was compounded by the fact that his squad had spent the entire week drilling specifically to avoid that very defensive lapse.

Current Position & Job Security

Betting companies now list Farke as their frontrunner for the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

The circumstances facing Leeds have grown dire. Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the club has dropped into the relegation places for the first time during the current campaign, occupying 18th position following this latest setback in a run of 3 straight losses.

Nevertheless, Football Insider notes that the boardroom continues to stand behind Farke, even as supporters grow increasingly restless. While there’s no immediate threat to his tenure at this moment, the coming weeks will prove absolutely critical.
Club insiders reveal that the ownership group remains conscious of mounting fan frustration and may be compelled to take action should circumstances fail to improve.

Internal Dynamics

The atmosphere within the Leeds changing room has deteriorated dramatically, according to Football Insider.
Following last week’s loss against Aston Villa, the squad’s morale was described as being at its absolute lowest this season, with players reportedly feeling completely deflated.
A belief has started taking hold internally that fresh leadership might be necessary to bridge the considerable gap between Championship football and top-flight competition.

Leading into today’s Manchester City encounter, Football Insider had reported that Farke was facing a 2-match ultimatum to secure his position. The fixtures against City and the upcoming Chelsea clash on December 3rd were identified as make-or-break moments. Today’s loss, regardless of the admirable spirited second-half response, does nothing to ease the mounting pressure.

Underlying Problems

TEAMtalk highlights the stark numbers plaguing Leeds’ season: 5 losses from 6 matches, merely 2 victories in 10 outings, and just 11 goals scored across 12 league fixtures.
Their goalscoring record trails only Wolves among Premier League sides. Additionally, Leeds have managed just a single point when falling behind, which they’ve done in 8 of their 12 matches this term.

Sam Allardyce, who previously managed Leeds, told TEAMtalk that Farke’s challenges boil down to one fundamental issue: insufficient firepower up front.
The attacking struggles have become increasingly problematic, with neither Calvert-Lewin nor Nmecha offering reliable goal production despite their contributions in today’s game.

Potential Replacements

TEAMtalk and Football Insider indicate that Brendan Rodgers sits atop Leeds’ shortlist for potential successors. Sources suggest the former Celtic boss would welcome the opportunity. Additional candidates being discussed include Marcelo Bielsa, Carlos Corberan, and Ange Postecoglou.

Farke’s existing contract runs for roughly 19 more months at an annual salary of £3 million, meaning his dismissal would carry approximately £5 million in costs for the club.

Immediate Outlook

Yorkshire Evening Post outlines the daunting schedule ahead for Leeds: a home fixture against Chelsea this Wednesday, December 3rd, followed by Liverpool visiting Elland Road.
These encounters with 3 of the league’s powerhouses will almost certainly decide Farke’s future. Before today’s match, former Leeds defender Stephen Warnock stated that Farke needed victories in the upcoming games to save his job—essentially demanding positive results against two of the nation’s strongest teams.

Yorkshire Evening Post further reports that Farke maintains a bullish public stance, expressing confidence in squad unity and insisting they’ll navigate this difficult, challenging spell and period.
However, the harsh truth is that this defeat against City has not reduced the pressure bearing down on the German tactician. Without an improbable positive outcome against Chelsea next week, his situation looks increasingly more precarious, regardless of current boardroom backing and support.
