Match Context & Summary
After getting hammered 3-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in midweek Champions League action, Barcelona desperately needed to bounce back with a statement performance.
Despite shipping an early goal in literally the first minute, Barcelona managed to turn things around and claim their 4th straight win in La Liga. Dani Olmo was the star of the show with 2 goals, while Lamine Yamal grabbed the equalizer after Pablo Ibanez had given Alaves that shocking early lead.
This was only Barcelona’s second game back at the redeveloped Camp Nou, and the 3 points pushed them 2 points ahead at the top of the table. That said, Real Madrid still has a game in hand they can use to close the gap.
The Match Timeline
Honestly, it couldn’t have started worse for the home side. Marc Casado completely botched a clearance from a corner kick, accidentally playing Pablo Ibanez onside, and the Alaves midfielder made no mistake from close range. The Camp Nou went silent—you could feel the tension.
But Barcelona didn’t panic. Lamine Yamal pulled them level with a cracking finish. The buildup was lovely too—Alejandro Balde started it, Raphinha whipped in a cross that took a nick off Robert Lewandowski, and Yamal absolutely smashed it home. That was actually his first goal at Camp Nou since they reopened the stadium.
Right after Joan Garcia pulled off an incredible save to keep it 1-1 (it could’ve easily been 2-1 to Alaves), Dani Olmo struck around the 25-minute mark to complete the turnaround. Raphinha set him up beautifully for Barcelona’s second. Funny enough, that was Olmo’s first goal for the club since back in September—talk about ending a drought at the perfect time.
Then, in stoppage time, Olmo put the game to bed. He combined nicely with Yamal before calmly side-footing his second into the bottom corner. Clinical stuff.

Tactical Notes
Barcelona had more than enough chances to put four or five past Alaves, even though their defensive shape was pretty solid. It wasn’t exactly vintage Barcelona—they’ve played much better this season—but they dominated possession and pinned Alaves back for most of the match despite that nightmare start.
Marc Bernal got his first start in over a year, and you could tell he was struggling. He’s clearly got quality—he showed some nice touches and good passing—but the intensity was a bit much for him at times. Marc Casado, meanwhile, had a shocker with that early clearance, and his passing was all over the place throughout.
One bright spot was Pedri coming off the bench in the second half. He immediately added some energy and creativity to the midfield.
Significance
This win was absolutely massive after that embarrassing Chelsea result midweek. Barcelona are now sitting on 34 points at the top, with Real Madrid on 32, but holding that game in hand against Girona. The big test comes December 3rd when Atletico Madrid visits Camp Nou—that’s going to be huge.
Four consecutive wins in La Liga now for Barcelona. The streak continues.
While it wasn’t their prettiest performance, there was an urgent need to grind out results. Showing that kind of character after going behind so early, especially after the Chelsea disaster, says a lot about this team’s mentality.
They’re staying top of the table heading into what could be a season-defining week with Atletico coming to town.
