NEW: Rayo Vallecano hold Real Madrid to a goalless stalemate

Rayo Vallecano finished an intense 90 minutes run in a goalless draw with league leaders, Real Madrid at the Estadio de Vallecas earlier today. Madrid threatened through the efforts of Vinicius, Bellingham, Valverde and Militao but were really unlucky against a stellar Rayo backline. Meanwhile Rayo’s best efforts came through Andrei Ratiu in the first half, and a stoppage time strike on target.

Madrid got an advantage on the corners with a lot of the ball being served by Arda Güler. The game was also very physical with a lot of yellow card caution on both sides – Rayo 3, Madrid 2.

Match Overview

Madrid arrived as league leaders with 26 goals from 11 league games. The visitors showed early intent at Estadio de Vallecas as Arda Güler tested the goalkeeper with a left-footed strike from outside the penalty area in the third minute. The shot which was directed towards the left side of the goal frame putting pressure on Rayo’s defense. Two minutes later, Rayo’s Unai Lopez forced a deflected shot off target from the right foot outside the penalty area showcasing their intent to challenge the visitors’ defense.

The first caution of the game came in the 15th minute when Rayo’s Andrei Ratiu received a yellow card booking for a serious foul. The game continued with pressure from both sides till the halftime whistle.

Play resumed in the second half with Real getting a freekick in a promising area of the middle third, half space area but they couldn’t convert. But the set piece offered a key moment for Real to initiate a promising attack.

Real got several notable attempts at goal with a particularly significant effort being Jude Bellingham’s left-footed effort from the final third’s half-space towards the lower left inside of the frame in the 54th minute.

What this means for both teams

This stalemate breaks Madrid’s momentum after four straight wins but the visitors remain strong title contenders and will retain their spot as league leaders.

Meanwhile, for Rayo, it is a good comeback after their 4-0 loss to Villarreal in the previous round of the league. It also continues their resilient home trend of no defeat at the Estadio de Vallecas.

Upcoming fixtures

Rayo will get on the road to face Oviedo on Sunday November 23 after which they will head to Slovan Bratislavafor their Europa Conference League fixture on November 27, 2025.

Madrid will head to the Manuel Martinez Valero to take on Elche in the next round of the La Liga fixtures on Sunday night. They will then head out to face Olympiacos on November 26 for the next round of the UEFA Champions league.
