Background on Pioli’s Dismissal
Stefano Pioli returned to Fiorentina as head coach on July 12, 2025, marking his second spell at the club, but his stint proved difficult from the very beginning, with the Viola failing to win any of the first ten league games.
This resulted in Pioli’s dismissal on November 4th, 2025, following a 1-0 home loss to Lecce that left Fiorentina at the bottom of the table.
Fiorentina has yet to record a win through 10 Serie A matches, having drawn four and lost six, representing the club’s worst ever start. Fiorentina sit 19th in the Serie A table, collecting just 4 points in the opening ten games of the season.
Pioli had initially refused to resign despite pressure from the club, forcing Fiorentina to formally terminate his contract.

The 53-year-old most recently managed Torino and was dismissed in the 2024-25 season after guiding the club to an 11th-place Serie A finish.
Vanoli has a previous connection to Florence, making this appointment a return to the city for him as a manager.
