Football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo has once again proven himself to be the best of all time, scoring two goals for Portugal in their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Hungary at Estadio da Luz, reaching 41 goals to beat Carlos Ruiz’s record of 39. He now has 143 goals for the Portuguese national team and 948 career goals amongst other accolades.
Meanwhile Ronaldo is closely followed by the Argentine legend Lionel Messi who is 3rd on the World Cup qualification top scorers list with 36 goals.

The 40 year old was able to level the scores early and even went on to give Portugal a halftime lead. However, they held on to the lead for the greater part of the second period but ran out of luck in the first minute of stoppage time when Dominik Szoboszlai was able to level the scores for Hungary after Ronaldo was substituted.
Despite the efforts of the Al Nassr forward, Portugal were unable to secure their place in the FIFA tournament as they needed all three points while also counting on Armenia to drops points against Ireland which they did. Portugal are now with 10 points from 4 matches with only one draw, and will now have to wait until November to secure their World Cup spot when they take on Ireland and Armenia.
