Réal Madrid have now won eight of their last nine UEFA Champions League when facing an opponent for the first time in the competition, while Kylian Mbappé has now scored three UEFA Champions League hat-tricks away from home.

Also, Kairat are only the second team to ever concede over 4 goals in both their first two UEFA Champions League games.

Match Overview

Kairat manager Rafael Urazbakhtin made a lot of changes to the squad that beat Zhenys on Monday. Meanwhile, Madrid boss Alonso was forced to make a lot of changes to his side due to injuries from their game against Atletico.

The game kicked off with both teams struggling to take charge early in the game. Mbappé was able to give Madrid the lead in the 25th minute through an excellent spot-kick, his third successful penalty in the competition this season.

The hosts were only able to get just about five touches inside Madrid’s box by halftime.

The second half started with the same energy as from the first half and seven minutes later, Mbappé doubled the lead through a well coordinated lift over Kalmurza into the back of the net.

Kairat tried to switch things up by bringing in Edmilson for Jorginho. Shortly after, the host got a good chance to get back into the game when Grymko was brought down inside the box by Ceballos. Referee Marco Guida pointed to the spot but was invited by the fourth official for a review after which his initial decision was overturned.

A few minutes later, forward Kylian Mbappé got his third goal of the night through a clinically lasered shot which went straight into the bottom right corner beating Kalmurza.

Madrid were not done for the night as midfielder Eduardo Camavinga added further gloss to their lead with a fine header from a Rodrygo cross in the 83rd minute.
