Inter Miami CF midfielder, Sergio Busquets, has announced that he will retire from playing professional football at the end of the Major League Soccer (MLS) season in December.
Busquets, 37, was in action for Inter Miami in their 4-0 victory over New York City FC on Wednesday in the MLS play-offs, recording two assists in the game.
Busquets’ dominance
The Former Spain and Barcelona captain won 32 major honours in 18 years at Barcelona, including nine La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.

He made 143 appearances for Spain and was part of the side that won the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship.
Busquets joined Inter Miami in 2023, linking up with former Barca team-mates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez.
“I feel like the time has come to say goodbye to my career as a professional footballer. It’s been almost 20 years of enjoying this incredible story I always dreamed of,” The Midfielder said in a video posted on social media.
“I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all, grateful. Thank you all very much, see you soon.”
Inter Miami’s Play-offs journey
Busquets is expected to feature in Inter Miami’s game away at Toronto tomorrow, Saturday by 20:30 (GMT).
The 4-0 victory over New York City FC secured their place in the MLS play-offs.

A statement by Inter Miami CF Communications Department reads in part, “The team now looks forward to his (Busquets) contribution in the push for its objectives during the final stretch of the campaign, which will bring to a close an extraordinary career that saw him claim numerous titles and accolades with FC Barcelona and the Spanish National Team, earning recognition as one of the greatest midfielders in football history.”
The 18-team play-offs begin on 22 October and culminate with the MLS Cup on 6 December.
