BREAKING: Arsenal shares a point with Manchester City in Matchday 5

It was a mouth-watering experience at the Emirates stadium today as Arsenal pulled a late goal in the 93rd minute to level the scoreline against City.

Going into the game, both teams were already playing catch-up to reigning champions Liverpool who are six points clear at the top of the League table. Both teams had momentum after winning their Champions League openers 2-0 each in the midweek, Arsenal winning at Athletic Bilbao and City against Napoli.

Arsenal had won both their first two Premier League home games this season accumulating eight unreplied goals, an achievement they have not had since winning their three opening home games in a single campaign in 1960/61. Interestingly, the Gunners were also unbeaten in each of their five most recent matches again City.

Meanwhile City who experienced back-to-back defeats against Tottenham and Brighton were back to winnings ways in last weekend’s Manchester derby before defeating Napoli in the Champions League in midweek, and hoped to grab all three points making them level on points with the Gunners. City had also lost their last two Premier League visits to Arsenal.

Lineups

Arsenal lineup

Arteta had David Rays in post with J. Timber, W. Saliba, Gabriel and R. Calafiori on the back line. Merino, Zubimendi and Declan Rice played in midfield behind forwards, Madueke, Gyökeres and Trossard.

City’s lineup

On City’s end was Donnarumma in goal with Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol and O’Reilly on the back line. Rodri was in midfield behind Doku, Reijnders, Silva and Foden with Haaland leading the attack.

Arsenal enjoyed possession in the opening minutes but were setback by an early goal from Haaland in the ninth minute of the first half. City then saw little of the ball but went into the halftime with a goal lead.

Looking to end their five-match winless streak against Arsenal, City held on to the one goal lead up till the ninetieth minute but were unable to keep their composure three minutes into stoppage time and they conceded through Gabriel Martinelli who lifted the ball past Donnarumma who was off his line.

Arsenal will head to Port Vale on Wednesday night for the third round of the EFL Cup while, City will travel to Huddersfield on Wednesday for the third round of EFL Cup before hosting Burnley on Saturday in the Premier League.
