Fenerbahçe has parted ways with Portuguese Head Coach, José Mourinho. The decision came as a result of José’s inability to get the club a spot on the Champions League’s roster due to a defeat to Benfica on Wednesday night.
Fenerbahçe took to it’s X account to comment on Mourinho’s departure, it reads: “We have parted ways with José Mourinho, who has been the manager of our Professional Football A Team since 2024/25 season. We thank him for his efforts for our team and wish him success in his future career.”
Fenerbahçe who will now compete in the UEFA Europa League stage are to face the likes of Aston Villa, Ferencvárosi Torna Club, OGC Nice, FC Victoria Plzen, among others.

Mourinho in a statement after the loss to Benfica expressed his delight in the performance of the Fenerbahçe players despite losing the game, saying, “First of all, I think the stronger side won. They were much better in the first half. We weren’t good, we lost too many duels and couldn’t cope with their rhythm. They were the better side. In the second half, we were the better side, but it wasn’t enough. We created two chances in the final period. Talisca and En-Nesyri’s headers were clear cut. They controlled the game after went down to 10 men, but frankly, they deserved it with their performance in the first half. We showed an honorable stance and reacted in the second half. My players gave their all. We played more offensively, we were more aggressive, we caused trouble for the opponent, and they tried to draw fouls and waste time to finish the match that way because they sensed the danger. We lost against a really good, strong team today.”
What’s next for José Mourinho?

With Mourinho now on the market, he may be considering a move to English side, Manchester United which he has been in communications with for a while now.
