With preparations on the way for the 2026 World Cup, Brazil forward, Neymar is uncertain of making the squad although his name is on the list of players who can go to the World Cup. The Brazil national team manager, Carlo Ancelotti issued a statement in Lille on November 17, that the 33-year-old remains eligible for the World Cup next summer if he proves his fitness over the next six months. “Neymar is on the list of players who can go to the World Cup,” he said.
Neymar, who is currently Brazil’s all-time leading scorer (79 goals), is recovering from an injury and is expected to be fully fit in the next six months. He is also set to rejoin Santos after the holiday following the league season. “He has recovered from his injury and now has six months to get back to full fitness.
“When the championship in Brazil ends, he will have a holiday and then he will be able to show his quality and also his physical condition when the competition starts again,” Ancelotti said.
Notwithstanding, Brazilian team manager, Ancelotti plans to monitor Neymar’s performances closely, putting him as a potential impact substitute in their transitional phase.
Neymar’s injury
Neymar suffered another major setback sometime in September when he picked up a thigh injury. He has been missing out of action for his club Santos and was expected to be sidelined until November but the 33-year-old has been limited to recurring setbacks. The Brazilian rehabilitation program hoped he could rejoin Santos in December for the final league fixtures but at 33, every setback raises fresh doubts about his recovery.
Brazil’s World Cup hopes
There has been several speculations on whether Neymar can recover in time to be fully fit for the 2026 World Cup but every setback breeds uncertainty as a result of his age. The team had hoped he could join them in six months as manager stated that the forward “still has an opportunity to regain peak form in time.”
“The Brazilian Championship stops on December 7, then he can take a vacation, but then he’ll have the Brazilian Championship again to show his quality and, obviously, his physical condition,” he added.
