Tottenham secured the signature of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in August 2024 for a club record £65 million, while offering him a six-year long-term contract until 2030 with £175k per week in wages.

The 28-year-old had a breakout 2023-2024 season at Bournemouth, scoring 19 EPL goals and contributing 16 goals across all competitions in his debut Tottenham season, helping Spurs win the Europa League (their first major trophy in 17 years).

It seems this season, under the management of Thomas Frank, has not started on a bright note for Solanke due to recurring injuries, thereby limiting him to just 12 minutes of league game time. Recent reports state increasing discontent, particularly from Head Manager Thomas Frank, leading to speculation that Spurs could consider selling off Solanke in the January 2025 transfer window.

Reasons For Possible Offload

Manager Thomas Frank reportedly does not see Solanke as an appropriate profile fit for his pragmatic tactical system and remains unconvinced by Solanke’s training output and limited on-pitch impact this season.

Solanke’s injury issues have put him on the sidelines indefinitely with no certain return period, and this has led to reliance on striking alternatives like Richarlison, Mathys Tel (who’s still struggling with clinical consistency), and Randal Kolo Muani (who’s trying to gain the full confidence of the club fans), thus increasing Tottenham’s attacking inconsistencies.

Tottenham currently sits third on the EPL table after nine games. It remains to be fully confirmed from sources if Frank is actively pushing to sign a new No.9 to strengthen the attack ahead of the tight fixture schedule for Tottenham across all competitions.

Offloading Solanke won’t be an easy task due to:

  • interested clubs such as potential mid-table EPL sides or Saudi Pro League teams may offer low proposals given his injury record and age.
  • his lengthy 5-year contract
  • the complicating nature of the January transfer window period where it is difficult to do transfer business.

With no formal bids reported yet, this situation is worth monitoring as the Tottenham Board seems aligned with Frank’s objectives despite Solanke’s proven Premier League experience and pedigree. Solanke has to turn his fortunes around and prove his worth to the Manager as soon as possible.
