New: Sean Dyche to sign contract till June 2027 with Nottingham Forest

After parting ways with former manager Ante Postecoglou on Saturday, City Ground is set to welcome former Forest trainee, Sean Dyche who has verbally agreed to take over as Postecoglou’s replacement. The decision follows their urgent need for a manager as they are expected to make an appearance on Thursday’s round of Europa League fixtures to take on FC Porto.

The 54 year old who is famous for his defensive expertise is expected to turn the tides for Forest who are currently placed in 18th position in the league standings with huge relegation concerns.

The Negotiations so far

Since late Sunday night, negotiations has been in progress as both Dyche and Forest hope to expedite arrangements in order to make room for Thursday’s Europa League match. Although some details of the legal aspects of their agreement are yet to be sorted out, reports say that the paperwork has not been signed but the English man could be confirmed later today.

It was also gathered that Club owner Evangelos Marinakis had been looking into several possible replacement options since Saturday including Roberto Mancini and Marco Silva. Since their time at Olympiacos, Fulham boss Silva had been his most admirable, and at the top of several names on Marinakis’ list but due to challenges with paying compensation for any new manager from their PSR restrictions they would settle for Dyche.

Marinakis’ Dilemma

After paying a significant compensation for sacking Nuno Espírito Santo and his back room staff last month, Marinakis now faces a similar huge bill for sacking Postecoglou and his coaches with their PSR restrictions leaving no budget for three different managers in the same season. He will not be able to take in any new manager and is left to source for a replacement internally.

The 58 year old Greek is well aware that his next managerial appointment is crucial to attaining some stability in the club. In that line, the club’s hierarchy believes Dyches is the most suitable to help keep their spot in the Premiership while ambitions of finishing further up the table have been out of sight.

Marinakis also hopes that whoever takes over the coaching position will maximize the hefty investments made on the squad last summer – Forest spent over £180m in the transfer window.

N’Forest’s upcoming fixtures

October 23 – FC Porto, Europa League

October 26 – Bournemouth, Premier League

November 1 – Manchester United, Premier League

November 6 – Sturm Graz, Europa League
