Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has been officially appointed as the new General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, marking a homecoming for one of Nigeria’s most celebrated football icons. The announcement was made by the Kano State Government following approval from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who expressed confidence that Musa’s experience and leadership will help reposition the club for success.
Musa’s appointment brings his relationship with Kano Pillars full circle. The forward, who began his professional career with the club over a decade ago, has now returned in a new capacity, not as a player, but as an administrator tasked with reviving the fortunes of one of Nigeria’s most historic football institutions.
Speaking after his unveiling at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Musa expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity and vowed to dedicate himself to the club’s progress. “Kano Pillars will always be part of my story,” he said. “This club gave me a platform to showcase my talent when I was just a teenager. Coming back now as General Manager is an honor and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. My goal is to help bring back the glory days and make Pillars a force again in Nigerian football.”
A New Era for Pillars

The club’s management and supporters have welcomed the decision with great enthusiasm, seeing Musa’s appointment as a step toward restoring the team’s competitive edge in the Nigeria Premier Football League. Known for his discipline, humility, and passion for the game, Musa is expected to bring professionalism and fresh ideas to the club’s structure.
Officials within the Kano State Sports Commission noted that Musa’s international exposure, having played for top clubs in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, will be vital in improving the club’s administration, talent development, and overall performance. His experience as captain of the Nigerian national team is also expected to inspire players and staff alike.
From Local Star to Global Icon
Musa’s story with Kano Pillars began in 2009 when he joined the club as a young, energetic winger. His dazzling performances in the Nigerian top flight quickly earned him national attention, leading to moves abroad that saw him play for VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands, CSKA Moscow in Russia, Leicester City in England, and later Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Beyond his club career, Musa remains a national hero for his exploits with the Super Eagles, including his memorable brace against Argentina at the 2014 World Cup and his leadership role during multiple AFCON campaigns.

As General Manager, Musa will oversee player recruitment, team management, and development programs aimed at nurturing young talent from Kano and beyond. He has already hinted at plans to strengthen the club’s scouting network and introduce more structured training programs for both players and coaches.
“I want to see young players from Kano grow into stars who can represent the state and the country,” Musa said. “We have so much untapped potential here, and my mission is to ensure that Pillars once again becomes a hub of football excellence.”
