Egypt qualify for 2026 World Cup with 3-0 win over Djibouti as Salah scores Brace

Egypt have officially booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a commanding 3-0 victory over Djibouti, with captain Mohamed Salah once again leading by example with a stunning brace. The win, played out in front of an ecstatic home crowd in Cairo, secured the Pharaohs’ spot at next summer’s global showpiece and extended their unbeaten run in the qualifiers.

From the opening whistle, Egypt looked determined to make a statement. The team dominated possession, controlled the tempo, and showed relentless attacking intent. It took only 18 minutes for Salah to break the deadlock, finishing clinically after a well-timed through ball from Mahmoud Trezeguet split the Djiboutian defence. The Liverpool forward’s precise control and composure under pressure highlighted his world-class instincts and set the tone for the evening.

Djibouti struggled to cope with Egypt’s fluid movement and pressing. Their defensive organisation was repeatedly tested by the pace and creativity of the Pharaohs’ front line. Midway through the first half, Salah doubled the lead, latching onto a rebound after Ahmed Hegazi’s header was parried by the goalkeeper. The strike, his second of the night, sent the Cairo International Stadium into wild celebration, as fans chanted the captain’s name in appreciation of yet another talismanic display.

Egypt maintained their dominance after the break, with coach Rui Vitória opting to manage the tempo and protect his key players while still pushing for a third goal. The reward came in the 73rd minute when Mostafa Mohamed added his name to the scoresheet, capitalising on a defensive error to slot home from close range and seal the victory. The goal was a reflection of Egypt’s all-round superiority and hunger to finish the qualification campaign in style.

Salah’s brace not only cemented his place as Egypt’s all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifiers but also underlined his continued influence as the team’s leader. His combination of experience, consistency, and drive has been pivotal in guiding the Pharaohs through the qualifying rounds with confidence and control.

After the final whistle, scenes of jubilation erupted both on the pitch and in the stands. Players celebrated with fans, waving flags and embracing in a moment of national pride. For Egypt, this qualification represents a return to football’s biggest stage after missing out on the 2022 tournament, a redemption story years in the making.

Coach Rui Vitória praised his players for their discipline, tactical focus, and commitment throughout the campaign, describing the qualification as a result of collective effort rather than individual brilliance. However, it was Salah’s night to shine once again, his double strike ensuring Egypt’s ticket to North America and reaffirming his status as the heartbeat of the national team.
