BREAKING: REAL MADRID DOMINATE VILLARREAL 3–1 IN STRONG STATEMENT WIN

Real Madrid had a strong night at the Santiago Bernabéu, defeating Villarreal 3–1 thanks in large part to a standout performance from Vinícius Júnior and a clinical finish from Kylian Mbappé.

The opening half passed with few clear-cut chances as both defenses held firm. But shortly after the break, Real Madrid broke the deadlock. Vinícius curled in a shot that took a slight deflection off Santi Comesaña and wrong-footed the goalkeeper. The goal injected confidence into the hosts, who began to dominate territory and momentum.

In the 69th minute, Madrid were awarded a penalty when Vinícius was fouled inside the box. He stepped up and converted with composure to make it 2–0. Villarreal, however, responded quickly: Georges Mikautadze pulled one back in the 73rd minute with a low, well-placed shot, giving his side hope.

That hope was short-lived. In the 77th minute, Villarreal were reduced to ten men when Santiago Mourino received a second yellow card for a foul on Vinícius. Playing with a numerical advantage, Real Madrid pressed forward. In the 80th minute, Brahim Díaz fed Mbappé, who slotted home to seal the three points and leave no doubt about the winner.

Madrid showed control in the closing stages, managing possession and limiting Villarreal’s final attempts. The hosts did well to absorb pressure when necessary and counterattack with purpose.

Lineups & Formation

Real Madrid lined up in an attacking 4-2-3-1, with an emphasis on wing play and forward rotation. The first XI included Courtois, Valverde, Militao, Huijsen, Carreras, Tchouaméni, Ceballos, Mastantuono, Güler, Vinícius Júnior, Mbappé

Villarreal, on the other hand, attempted a more conservative setup with a 4-4-2 formation, but the early sending-off forced them into defensive reshuffling in the latter stages. The first XI squad included, Tenas, Mourino, Rafa Marín, Veiga, Cardona, Buchanan, Comesaña, Partey, Moleiro, Oluwaseyi, Pape Gueye

Up Next

Historically, Real Madrid have dominated this matchup. Over nearly 50 encounters to date, Madrid have claimed 26 wins, Villarreal 6, and 17 ended in draws.

In their recent meetings, Madrid have enjoyed the upper hand, consistently winning at home and maintaining a strong record in these fixtures.

Real Madrid will aim to carry this momentum forward as they face Osasuna in their upcoming La Liga fixture. Meanwhile, Villarreal must regroup quickly, with their next challenge coming against Atlético in a bid to rebound.
