Midfielder Jude Bellingham has returned to the Real Madrid squad after a shoulder surgery. The 22 year old was supposed to resume in October following a surgery on a long standing shoulder issue and had not played since July. However, he has been named on Xabi’s list to face Marseille side in the Champions League tie later on today.
Xabi Alonso wants him to play as attacking number 10, close to the box. The same role he took on his debut season which spells more goals for the English national.
Bellingham who joined Real from Borussia Dortmund two years ago for £115m won both the La Liga title and Champions League in his first season, scoring 23 goals in 43 appearances.
He has scored 15 goals in 58 games last season, with Los Blancos losing the league title to Barcelona and knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Arsenal.
The young Englishman has struggled with the problem since 2023, when he dislocated his shoulder in a game against Rayo Vallecano, but is in top shape to make a return 30 days earlier than what was expected.
During his rehabilitation, Bellingham conducted non contact training sessions ahead of schedule early in September and Los Blancos head coach, Xabi expressed optimism on his return hoping he would be available for their El Classico.
With Bellingham’s inclusion in the Champions League opener squad, Real Madrid fans are excited and hope for a strong performance. His return bolsters the midfield and adds depth to the squad making them enormous contenders for the cup this season.
