Every unbeaten run meets its end, and on 17 October 2026, Pedro Neto did the honours. Chelsea beat Everton 2-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, ending the Toffees’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season. Neto scored both goals, his first Premier League brace in 187 appearances, and Chelsea kept their first league clean sheet in nine months. Here is the full Everton vs Chelsea match report.
A Feisty First Half Goes Goalless

This was no walk in the park. Both sides scrapped hard, and the first half was stop-start and bad-tempered. Moises Caicedo hit the crossbar, Everton’s Harrison Armstrong cleared a Maxence Lacroix header off the line, and Thierno Barry headed straight at Emiliano Martínez. Chelsea also got lucky. Morgan Rogers, already booked, escaped a second yellow after a challenge on James Garner, leaving the home players furious.
Neto Strikes Twice

Chelsea needed less than a minute of the second half to change everything. Jorrel Hato raced to the byline and pulled the ball back, and Neto squeezed it past Jordan Pickford, who should have done better.

The second came in the 90th minute. Everton defended Jordan Henderson’s free-kick well at first, but the loose ball fell to Neto, who swept it home from 12 yards. Chelsea have now won nine of their last ten league games in which he scores.
A Scary Moment for Emi Martínez

The night’s real drama came from a frightening collision. Rushing out to punch away a free-kick, Martínez clashed with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and needed lengthy treatment before being stretchered off, with 11 minutes of stoppage time added. Mike Penders replaced him for his Premier League debut and was barely troubled.

Manager Xabi Alonso said the keeper left the stadium conscious, and Neto dedicated the win to him: “This win is for him.” Martínez later said he would be back in a few weeks after surgery.
Alonso’s Plan Works

Before kick-off, Alonso demanded his players match Everton’s intensity and energy. They did, then added quality after the break, and the win was Chelsea’s first at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Alonso called it a very good win. Some days, preparation and belief simply meet the right moment, and Neto was ready for his.
The Numbers Tell the Story

Neto’s 9.3 Sofascore rating was the highest on the pitch. Sofascore had Chelsea with 18 shots to Everton’s six and an expected goals edge of 1.54 to 0.45. Six shots was Everton’s lowest in a league game since December 2025, and it was the first time since February they failed to score at home in the Premier League. Chelsea, meanwhile, ended a 22-game run of conceding in the league.
What It Means

The defeat ended Everton’s unbeaten start, leaving only Manchester City and Brentford unbeaten, and Brentford fell to Liverpool later that day. David Moyes’ side were punished at both ends of the second half. Chelsea leapfrog Everton in the table and host Tottenham on 24 October.
