Some Saturdays belong to one man. At the Etihad on 17 October 2026, Manchester City beat Ipswich Town 3-2, and Erling Haaland made sure everybody knew whose day it was. His brace in this Premier League thriller powered City to a seventh straight win and carried him into the record books. Here is the full Man City vs Ipswich match report.
Foden Strikes, Ipswich Hit Back

City ruled the ball from the first whistle while a sea of inflatable bananas, a fan tradition dating back to the 1980s, bounced around the stands. Ipswich still stayed dangerous on the counter. In the 19th minute, Jeremy Doku’s trickery found Phil Foden, who guided a low finish past Christian Walton for his first goal in 23 games.

Then Daizen Maeda shrugged off Marc Guehi and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma at the near post. It was 1-1, barely two minutes later.
Haaland Takes Over the Etihad

Then the Norwegian went to work. In the 34th minute, Mateo Kovacic glided down the right and clipped a cross, and Haaland powered a header home to restore City’s lead.

After the break, Iliman Ndiaye slid a pass through the middle, and Haaland bulldozed past Abdoul Ouattara and rolled his finish into the corner in the 69th minute. Former Ireland striker Clinton Morrison told Sky Sports the finish was “not normal.”
Haaland’s Record: 100 Non-Penalty Premier League Goals

That second goal carried history. It was his 100th non-penalty Premier League goal, reached in only 139 appearances, quicker than any player before him. It also made 12 goals for the season and four in a single week.

Manager Enzo Maresca called him a leader and a captain, not just a scorer. Some players are simply gifted, and watching Haaland, you can only be thankful for the talent.
VAR Drama and a Nervy Finish

In the 85th minute, Haaland thought he had a hat-trick, but VAR ruled Enzo Fernandez offside in the build-up. Minutes later, Guehi was penalised for contact on Abdul Fatawu.

Zian Flemming buried the penalty to make it 3-2. Twelve minutes of added time followed, and City hung on. The numbers show how lopsided it was: City had 85 entries into the final third and 40 touches in the box, against 39 and 15 for Ipswich, according to Sofascore.
What the Win Means for City

Seven wins from seven means 21 points and a six-point cushion, as things stood on Saturday night. Maresca also became the first manager to win his first seven Premier League games at a new club. Ipswich, on nine points, can hold their heads high, and boss Gary O’Neil said his players gave everything for 102 minutes.

The worry for City is injuries. Haaland limped off, though Maresca said it was nothing serious, and Antoine Semenyo is the one to watch.
