Arsenal vs Lille brings Champions League nights back to north London, and the reigning Premier League champions are the clear favourites. Kick-off at the Emirates is 8pm BST, which is also 8pm in Nigeria.
Napoli Showed How Good Arsenal Can Be

The Gunners opened their campaign in style. They won 1-0 at Napoli and racked up 4.05 expected goals, their highest total in a single Champions League game in the club’s history. The scoreline did not reflect their utter domination. No wonder Opta gives Arsenal a 71% chance of victory against just 11.4% for Lille.
A Fortress in Europe

The numbers are scary. Arsenal haven’t lost a Champions League league-phase game since November 2024. They have lost only one of their last 25 home games in the competition, and kept clean sheets in 10 of their last 16. They topped last season’s league phase by winning all eight matches.
Team News: Injury Headaches for Arteta

It is not a perfect picture. William Saliba and Christos Tzolis are out. Piero Hincapie hurt his ankle and Martin Zubimendi took a knock in the warm-down after Saturday’s 2-1 comeback win over Leeds, and Arteta has reportedly ruled both out of this game. That Leeds win mattered. Riccardo Calafiori and Bruno Guimaraes scored the goals that turned the game around.

Up front, Viktor Gyokeres is expected to start and is still hunting his first Arsenal goal of the season. A home game against Lille looks like the perfect chance.
Lille: Dangerous but Fragile

Davide Ancelotti’s Lille have attacking flair but defensive wobbles. They lost their opener 3-2 to Real Betis, and Ethan Mbappe was sent off. Lille took the lead twice in that game before throwing it away. They have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 12 away Champions League games.

There is a storyline too. Ex-Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, now 40, led Lille’s attack last time out, though he may make way for Ayase Ueda. Expect a warm welcome back to the Emirates, then a tough night for his old friends.
Prediction: Arsenal vs Lille

Sports Mole backs a 2-0 Arsenal win, and Yahoo Sports agrees. I am with them. Lille will score chances, but Arsenal’s quality and home record should be too much. Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Lille.
