Some players wait months for their first goal at a new club. Anthony Gordon waited two minutes. In a Saturday night masterclass at Camp Nou, Barcelona beat Getafe 3-0 and kept their perfect La Liga record intact. Here is how it happened, and why it matters.
Barcelona vs Getafe: The Goals

Gordon did not ease himself in. He picked up the ball just outside the box, cut inside a couple of defenders and drilled a low shot from 18 yards that deflected past David Soria, scoring his first Barcelona goal in the second minute.

The second came from a Getafe mistake. Gabriel Jesus added the second on the half-hour after Getafe were caught playing out from the back. That is the kind of punishment Barcelona’s pressing is built to deliver.

Then Jules Koundé finished the job in the 73rd minute, with the assist coming from Lamine Yamal. Three goals, three different scorers, and a comfortable evening.
Barcelona Stats: Total Domination

The scoreline understates this one. Barcelona had 83 percent possession, 23 shots, 8 on target and 1.93 expected goals, compared with 0.12 for Getafe. They also created six big chances and missed six, so the margin could have been much larger. Getafe managed just four shots, with one on target.
Team News: Raphinha Missing

Barcelona won without a key name. Captain Raphinha was absent, with his fitness on a thigh problem over the international break being carefully managed. Joan García returned to the side after injury, and he had a quiet night, which is exactly what you want from a goalkeeper at 3-0.
La Liga Table: Barcelona Stay Perfect

Barcelona now stand at eight wins from eight and 24 points, a flawless start to the season. Before kick-off they were already five games unbeaten in their recent run, with Getafe sitting 12th on 8 points.

The wider picture favours the leaders. Ahead of this round, Barcelona held a five-point lead over Atlético Madrid and six over Real Madrid. Madrid kept pace on the day, as Real beat Villarreal thanks to Diomande’s debut goal. The race stays alive, but Barcelona are setting the pace.
What Comes Next

There is little time to relax. Barcelona are back in action on Tuesday, so Raphinha’s availability and squad rotation will be worth watching.
