Nobody at the Super Eagles camp will say “must-win” out loud, but everybody knows it. Nigeria travel to Bissau today for an AFCON 2027 qualifier against Guinea-Bissau where three points could make Group L look easy and none could make it a nightmare.
Why This AFCON Qualifier Is a Must-Win

Tanzania have already qualified as co-hosts, so Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar are fighting for one remaining Group L place. Both sides won their openers. The Djurtus beat Tanzania 2-0 away and lead on goal difference, while Nigeria came from behind to beat Madagascar 2-1. Win today and you own six points and the driver’s seat.
Super Eagles Team News

The headline is who is missing. Victor Osimhen was not called up after a right adductor strain, and Taiwo Awoniyi returns for his first international involvement in almost two years.

Reports also suggest George Ilenikhena, the debut-goal hero against Madagascar, and Akor Adams are doubts after missing training.

Awoniyi and Tolu Arokodare could battle for the striker role, with Moses Usor and Moses Simon tipped to provide width.
Guinea-Bissau Players to Watch

Franculino Djú and Mama Baldé scored against Tanzania, and Beto and Renato Nhaga are also on Nigeria’s radar. Coach Emiliano Té is without Fali Candé and Elves Baldé, while midfielder Ronaldo Vieira faces a late fitness test.
Head-to-Head: Nigeria vs Guinea-Bissau

Nigeria have won three of four senior meetings, including a 2-0 win at AFCON 2021 through Sadiq Umar and William Troost-Ekong. But the Djurtus won 1-0 in Abuja in 2023, and Baldé scored that goal. Nigerian fans should not treat history as a guarantee.
Prediction

Against Madagascar, Nigeria fell behind early and needed a second-half rescue. Do that in Bissau and this hosts’ crowd will smell blood. Still, the Eagles have the deeper squad and the winning habit. Our prediction: Nigeria 2-1 Guinea-Bissau.
