Cesc Fabregas cannot stop winning, and Como cannot stop believing. Fresh off a stunning Champions League debut, the Lariani rolled straight back into Serie A action and got the job done again, beating Parma 2-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia to keep their fairytale season rolling into new territory.
It wasn’t Como’s cleanest performance of the campaign, but it might be one of their most telling. Just four days removed from demolishing RB Leipzig 4-1 in their maiden Champions League outing, this was a team running on fumes and still finding a way to win. That is the mark of a side building something serious.
Two Defenders Do the Damage
In a twist that summed up Como’s newfound balance, it was the men at the back who delivered the goals. Jacobo Ramón, the 21-year-old Spanish center-back who arrived from Real Madrid last summer, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, rising to meet a Nico Paz corner and converting from close range at the far post. It was the kind of composed, clinical finish that has become a hallmark of this Como side under Fabregas’ meticulous coaching.
Como controlled proceedings from there, dominating possession and peppering the Parma goal, but the Crociati refused to fold quietly. Late in the second half, with the game seemingly slipping away, Como delivered the knockout blow. Kaiki Bruno slipped in down the left and calmly finished past the onrushing goalkeeper to make it 2-0, a goal that looked to have sealed the points and the story of the match.
Parma Refuse to Go Down Without a Fight
Give Parma credit — this was not a side that simply rolled over. Carlos Cuesta’s men, still searching for their first win of the season, pushed hard in the closing stages and were rewarded deep into stoppage time. David Romero, who had already rattled the post earlier in the half, finally got his goal, drilling home a consolation strike to make it 2-1 and give the travelling supporters something to cheer.
It arrived far too late to change the outcome, but it did enough to make the final scoreline look respectable against a Como side that had, by the numbers, been utterly dominant — controlling around two-thirds of possession and firing off more than twenty shots across the ninety minutes.
What This Means for Como’s Season
The win pushes Como up to second in Serie A with ten points from four matches, level with Lazio and just two points behind league leaders Roma. It also extends their unbeaten start to the domestic campaign, a run that already includes statement victories away at Genoa and now back-to-back wins either side of a historic European bow.
For a club that was playing in Serie D barely eight years ago, this is nothing short of remarkable. Fabregas has built a Como side that combines defensive steel with attacking flair, and with new arrival Moise Kean now in the squad, there is a genuine sense that the Lariani are only getting started.
Parma, meanwhile, remain stuck on a single point and winless through four rounds, with far tougher questions to answer heading into their next fixture. But for Como and their manager, the momentum keeps building, and Serie A is starting to take serious notice.
