Soungoutou Magassa’s late equaliser earns West Ham a point at Old Trafford. this is the Premier League game to end level since July 2020.
Manchester United started the game on the front foot but the first big chance of the day went to the visitors as Aaron Wan-Bissaka pulled a great ball back for Fernandes but his strike was deflected off by Casemiro. in the follow-up, Jean-Clair Toribo and Bruno Fernandes had great attempts blocked on opposite ends of the pitch, before Casemiro got his body in the way to deny a clinical effort from Jarrod Bowen from going in, then El Hadji Malick Diouf was only able to scuffle the return ball wide.
The first save of the day came in the 24th minute when Alphonse Areola was forced to clear his line by tipping off a looped effort from Bryan Mbeumo which was bound for the top right corner. West Ham were lucky to survive the surge of attacks that followed as former United man, Wan-Bissaka was able the stop an effort from Joshua Zirkzee from going in, then Todibo blocked an overhead strike from Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes then sent the return ball wide of the mark. Manchester United continued to build momentum and saw Cunha and Bruno Fernandes’ efforts blocked by Konstantinos Mavropanos and Todibo respectively. Bowen then found his way into the United box but his shot was saved by Senne Lammens, after which the first period came to an end.

The early part of the second half provided two great openings for Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo but Freddie Potts made a vital challenge to stop his first effort from going in, then Tomás Souček stood firm when he finally got a shot in the second attempt, before Luke Shaw blazed in to fire the ball wide. Manchester United got the breakthrough just before the hour mark after Soungoutou Magassa’s effort found the side netting. A shot from Casemiro was deflected onto the path of Diogo Dalot who calmly converted.

Andy who came on as part of a double substitution quickly made his presence felt as his cross from a corner spot saw Bowen’s flick cleared off the line by Noussair Mazraoui, but Magassa was finely positioned and sent in his first goal for the Hammers in the 84th minute. Bruno Fernandes struck twice late on, after debutant Mohamadou Kanté blazed wide, but bother attempts went off the mark. This is West Ham’s second draw in the last three games, leaving them at the relegation area while United record their third draw in their last five PL games and will move to eight place on the league standings.
