The Confederation of African Football (CAF) hosted its 2025 Awards ceremony yesterday at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Morocco. The event featured stars like Achraf Hakimi, Mohammed Salah, and Victor Osimhen as finalists in the Men’s category. Hakimi has a great record with four trophies, nine goals and 12 assists for PSG and Morocco. Meanwhile, Salah boasts of even a greater number of goals and assists (34 goals and 23 assists), and one major trophy for Liverpool and Egypt. Finally, Osimhen has claimed two major titles with 37 goals and 7 assists for Galatasaray and Nigeria.
Winners at the 2025 CAF Awards


The list of finalists sparked intense debate on social media as votes from coaches, captains, experts, and media across 54 associations came in. In the end Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi emerged as the Player of the year while Yassine Bounou won the goalkeeper of the year award in the Men’s category.
Hakimi who arrived at the Awards on a knee walker was widely celebrated with several titles to his name having won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Ligue 1, Coup de France, Trophée des Champions, and he was largely responsible for Morocco’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

Hakimi in his speech expressed his gratitude to God and King Mohammed for providing the facilities which catered for footballers. “All glory to God. This trophy is not just for me – it is for all the Africans, young Africans who aspire to be footballers. I would like to thank King Mohamed for providing us with the facilities to help us succeed,” Hakimi said.
In the Women’s category, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak was named as the Women’s Player of the Year while Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie who plays for English side Brighton, won the Women Goalkeeper of the Year award.

A Joyous, pan-African celebration
The CAF Awards are a special ceremony created by the Confederation of African Football to recognize and celebrate the outstanding African footballers. It honours both individual performances as well as collective achievements of African teams. It also highlights the talent, excellence, and commitments of those with impacts across the continent. The 2025 Award ceremony was a memorable one as winners and performers gleeful after making a short closing number amid confettis, smiles and hugs.
