Bayern 2-2 Dortmund will be remembered for one thing: the worst night of the Ballon d’Or winner’s brand-new reign. Harry Kane played his first match since winning the Ballon d’Or on Monday, and Der Klassiker had a cruel script waiting for him.
A Ballon d’Or Parade at the Allianz Arena

The evening started like a coronation. Kane brought the Ballon d’Or trophy onto the pitch before kick-off, and the Bayern faithful saw it for the first time. Chants, flashbulbs, a golden glow. Football had other plans.
Laimer Strikes, Then Kane Steps Up

Bayern led through Konrad Laimer’s goal. Then came the moment that changed the night.

Kane fired his penalty against the crossbar in the 56th minute with Bayern 1-0 up. A second goal would have buried Dortmund. Instead, the door stayed open.
Chaos in Four Minutes

Dortmund did not need an invitation. Captain Nico Schlotterbeck intercepted a Kane pass, charged up the pitch and found Carney Chukwuemeka, who set up Serhou Guirassy to score at the near post. It was 1-1 four minutes after the penalty miss. Kane’s evening was suddenly a highlight reel of the wrong kind.
Kane Bounces Back, Upamecano Cashes In

To his credit, the Ballon d’Or winner answered quickly. Kane headed Joshua Kimmich’s cross back into the danger area for Dayot Upamecano to tap in on 66 minutes. Redemption, apparently. One report even has him hitting the post when it looked easier to score. His night was a rollercoaster.
Fabio Silva’s 89th-Minute Sucker Punch

Bayern looked home and dry. Then came the stab in the heart. Substitutes Konstantinos Karetsas and Silva combined in the final minute to rescue a point for Dortmund, and Silva fired into the far corner after Bayern failed to clear their lines. Cue stunned silence from the home end.
What This Means for the Bundesliga Title Race

The title race stays tight. Bayern and Dortmund are level on points at the top, with Bayern ahead on goal difference. It was only the fourth time in the past 18 Klassiker matches that Bayern did not win.

Bayern also have problems. Vincent Kompany is recovering from a virus, the forward line is short on bodies, and there is a trip to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. Kane needs to shake this off quickly.
