Arsenal will head to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating Port Vale 0-2 in today’s fixture. Eberechi Eze got his first goal for Arsenal and Leandro Trossard came off the bench to seal the winner.
This was Arsenal’s first trip to Port Vale in 27 years. It took the Gunners only eight minutes to breach the defense and get a goal this time as against 100 minutes in their last encounter.
Lineups
In the pre-match press conference, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta spoke on using his squad, something he clearly did. He made nine changes to the lineup from the Manchester City game in the Premier League.
Liverpool Kepa Arrizabalaga made his first start for Arsenal while Christian Norgaard made his full debut at the base of the midfield. In addition, Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ebere Eze were all included.
While Port Vale stuck with their squad from recent games featuring goalkeeper Joe Gauci, Jesse John Kodjo Debrah, Humphrey-Grant, George Hall, Lawrence-Gabriel, Connor Hall, Ryan Croasdale, Rhys Walters, Jaheim Headley, Paton, and Ronan Curtis.
Match overview
The first goal came as a result of the relentless efforts of Lewis-Skelly who superbly flicked the ball into Eze’s path who was able to slot it past goalkeeper Joe Gauci into the net.

Arsenal went on to establish control and looked to have taken the game away from Port Vale. Shortly after the first goal, Ethan Nwaneri who was making his first start of the season made an attempt at goal with a curled shot which was just sent wide due to a deflection.
Eze then came close to getting a brace in the 34th minute after he was slipped in by Bukayo Saka but his poor effort was comfortably saved by Gauci.
The hosts then tried to get back into the game but Cristhian Mosquera was on his guard as he stooped low to clear a low cross from George Hall.

Arsenal will return back to the Premier League to face Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday and the following Sunday will be Matchday two of the UEFA Champions League where they’ll host Olympiacos.
While Port Vale will head back to League to face sixth place Barnsley.
