Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Board of Directors dismissed head coach Vitor Pereira on Sunday, 2nd November 2025, following a catastrophic start to the Premier League season that has left the club languishing in the relegation bottom zone of the table after 10 games without a single victory.

The decision marks a dramatic reversal of fortune for the Portuguese manager, who received a new 3-year contract extension just 6 weeks prior in September.

The Breaking Point

Pereira’s tenure came to an end following a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday, November 1st, a result that left Wolves with a dismal record of 8 losses and just 2 draws from their opening 10 Premier League matches, amassing only 2 points.

Statistical Meltdown

The club has conceded 22 goals, more than any other team in the Premier League, while managing to score just 7 goals, the joint fewest in the division.

Over Pereira’s last 14 Premier League matches, the team recorded an appalling 11 losses and 3 draws with no victories.
The club also suffered elimination from the English League Cup at the hands of Chelsea during the week, compounding the misery.

Wolves currently sit 8 points adrift of Burnley, who occupy 17th place in the relative safety zone above the relegation zone, making their situation increasingly desperate as the season progresses.

Pre-Season Challenges

Pereira’s preparations for the current season were significantly affected by the departure of arguably the club’s two best players from the previous campaign.
Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha moved to Manchester United, while left back Rayan Ait-Nouri joined Manchester City.
These sales stripped the squad of key talents and experience, leaving Pereira with the difficult task of rebuilding while maintaining competence in one of the world’s most demanding football leagues.

Next Step for Wolves

Wolves face a challenging fixture at Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, 8th November, providing little space for the interim coaching staff as they attempt to arrest the team’s disastrous situation.
The club’s hierarchy is now actively searching for a permanent replacement to revive the team from its miserable campaign so far.

Early reports suggest that former Liverpool and Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is the current favorite to take the position, having recently resigned from his role at Celtic on October 27th.

Other names being linked to the vacancy are former Manchester United managers Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though the club has not officially confirmed any candidates.
