NEW: Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa: Inside the Emery Reunion That Could Break Villa’s Transfer Record

Some transfer stories start as a rumor and fade away. Others start as a rumor and grow teeth. The Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa saga belongs firmly in the second category. What began as a casual enquiry buried inside another negotiation has, in the space of a few weeks, turned into Aston Villa reportedly preparing to smash their own transfer record to reunite a manager with the striker he made.

The Villarreal Connection That Won’t Go Away

Every great transfer saga needs a hook, and this one has a strong one. Unai Emery gave Nicolas Jackson his first-team debut at Villarreal back in 2021, shaping his movement, his decision-making, and his understanding of how to attack space in behind a defence. Emery has since described Jackson’s attitude as fantastic and praised his willingness to learn, and that admiration has clearly never gone away. Years later, with both men now operating in the Premier League, the pull of a reunion has become impossible to ignore.

From Enquiry to “Constant Contact”

The interest first surfaced almost as a footnote during Villa’s British-record £117 million sale of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea. What looked like a minor aside has since escalated fast. Reports now describe Villa and Chelsea as being in constant contact over a Jackson deal, with Villa identifying the Senegal international as Emery’s leading attacking target for the new season. Chelsea have reportedly set an asking price in the region of £65 million, and rather than baulking at the figure, Villa are said to be preparing to pay a club-record fee to get the deal done.

That represents a significant shift from earlier expectations. Jackson’s long-term Chelsea contract, which runs until 2033, initially made a loan the more likely outcome given how much control it hands Stamford Bridge over any deal. But with Villa reinvesting funds freed up by the departures of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Donyell Malen, and having already used the Rogers negotiations to build working trust with Chelsea, a permanent deal now looks like the more realistic path.

Why Jackson Makes Sense at Villa Park

On the pitch, the fit is obvious. Jackson’s pace, pressing intensity and ability to run in behind defences are tailor-made for Emery’s counter-attacking system. He would not necessarily be a straight swap for Ollie Watkins, but his versatility means he could rotate as the central striker or operate from the left, giving Villa a genuine second scoring threat rather than a backup option gathering dust on the bench.

Jackson’s stock has fluctuated since his breakout at Chelsea. A season on loan at Bayern Munich brought 11 goals in 34 appearances, but the Bundesliga giants opted not to trigger their purchase option, sending him back to Stamford Bridge into a squad now built around Joao Pedro as first-choice striker. That crowded picture at Chelsea only strengthens Villa’s hand, and reports suggest Jackson himself is now open to the move after initially hoping to fight for his place under new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso.

The Bottom Line

This is no longer speculative transfer gossip. With positive discussions ongoing, a manager pulling hard for his former protege, and Villa willing to break their own spending record, Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa is rapidly becoming one of the most likely deals left in this window. The only real question now is when, not if, it gets done.
