Date: November 22nd, 2025
Venue: Stadio Diego Armando Maradonna
Final Score: Napoli 3-1 Atalanta

Match Context

Both teams arrived at this Matchday 12 clash desperately needing points.
Sports Mole noted Napoli sat 4th with 22 points after suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Bologna.
Meanwhile, Atalanta found themselves languishing in 13th place with only 13 points, having just been thrashed 3-0 by Sassuolo—literally a result that cost their previous manager, Ivan Juric, his job. Raffaele Palladino had been brought in to turn things around.

First Half Dominance

The breakthrough came in the 17th minute through David Neres.
After receiving a pass from Rasmus Hojlund, he burst past his defender and calmly finished into the far corner. It was his first goal since January, and you could see the relief.

Neres wasn’t done yet. In the 38th minute, Scott McTominay played an intelligent ball through, and Neres finished clinically to make it 2-0.

Right before halftime—a lit—literally at the 45-minute mark—literally—Noa Lang got his head to a Neres cross from the right flank (with Giovanni Di Lorenzo also involved in the buildup). That made it 3-0 and marked Lang’s first goal since arriving from PSV Eindhoven over the summer.

Napoli had been ruthless. They found spaces everywhere and punished Atalanta’s shaky defense repeatedly. By the time players headed to the dressing rooms, the game looked settled.

Second Half Fight—Headband Response

Credit to Palladinoout—he shot; he didn’t wait around.
At halftime, he sent on Gianluca Scamacca for Mario Pasalic, along with Odilon Kossounou. The changes sparked something.

Just 7 minutes into the second half, Scamacca connected beautifully with a volley from Raoul Bellanova’s cross. It was a genuinely brilliant goal that gave Atalanta hope.
They pushed hard after that, creating several dangerous chances and making Napoli really uncomfortable for a stretch. But the home side eventually regained control and managed the game out.

Match Statistics

According to Score24:

  • Atalanta actually controlled possession, holding 53.1% compared to Napoli’s 46.9%.
  • They also outshot Napoli 14-11.
  • However, Napoli’s efficiency told the story—they outshot Atalanta 6 shots on target versus 3.
  • Napoli also won the corner count 5-3.

Tactical Analysis & Observations

ESPN highlighted just how impressive Napoli’s attacking display was, given their recent struggles. They hadn’t won in November and had failed to score in their previous 3 matches.
David Neres completely changed that narrative with a man-of-the-match performance—2 goals and an assist.

Both managers made plenty of substitutions in the second half, trying to shape things.
Napoli brought on Eljif Elmas, Matteo Politano, and Pasquale Mazzocchi. Atalanta countered with Daniel Maldini and Nicola Zalewski, 2 among others.

Significance

This win was massive for Napoli. ESPN reported the victory lifted them to the top of Serie A—one point ahead of Inter Milan, Roma, and Bologna.
Of course, Sunday’s results could change things, particularly Inter’s derby against Milan.

Referee Marco Di Bello kept his cards in his pocket throughout, with no yellows or reds despite 11 fouls by Napoli and 12 by Atalanta. The game flowed nicely as a result.

For Napoli, this was exactly the kind of statement win they needed for their title push, especially doing it at their home ground, Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
For Atalanta and their new manager, the search for consistency continues.
