Wolverhampton Wanderers’ poor start to the Premier League season continued as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion at Molineux. Despite taking an early lead and producing moments of promise, Wolves’ evening was marred by the sending off of manager Vítor Pereira, whose side once again struggled to convert chances into victory.
The tension was evident from the start, with both teams pressing aggressively in midfield. The drama unfolded around the 20th minute when Wolves manager Vítor Pereira was shown a red card for dissent following a heated protest against a refereeing decision. His dismissal seemed to spark his players into life, and the hosts broke the deadlock soon after.
Wolves’ opener came through a moment of fortune and persistence. Midfielder Marshall Munetsi’s thunderous volley from outside the box crashed off the crossbar and bounced off Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen before rolling into the net, giving Wolves a deserved lead. The home crowd roared in approval, sensing that the team might finally claim their first win of the season.

Wolves continued to push forward, with Jørgen Strand Larsen rattling the post after a flowing counterattack involving Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia. However, their failure to take a second goal proved costly. As the second half wore on, Brighton began to dominate possession and push Wolves deeper into their own half.
The Seagulls’ persistence paid off late in the game. In the 86th minute, a well-delivered corner found defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who powered home a towering header past goalkeeper José Sá to level the score. Despite Wolves’ attempts to mount a late surge, Brighton controlled the closing stages, ensuring the points were shared.

The draw means Wolves remain winless after seven league matches, sitting near the bottom of the table, while Brighton’s solid away form keeps them comfortably midtable.
