Result : Bologna 2-0 Napoli
Goalscorers :
BOL – Thijs Dallinga (50’), Jhon Lucumi (66’)

Match Overview

Bologna delivered a stunning performance at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on November 9th 2025, defeating defending champions Napoli 2-0 in a result that sent shockwaves through Serie A.
The Rossoblu demonstrated tactical discipline and clinical finishing against an uncharacteristically toothless Napoli side.
The result was a deserved victory for the Rossoblu, who showed remarkable composure and efficiency to dispatch Antonio Conte’s injury-hit Partenopei, costing Napoli their top spot in the league standings.

First Half

The opening 45 minutes saw Napoli control possession (holding nearly 60%) but failed to translate it into meaningful chances. They moved the ball horizontally against a resolute Bologna low block, anchored by a disciplined midfield and backline.

The home side, however, was not without threat. They were aggressive in transition, with Dallinga and Rowe providing pace.
In fact Bologna registered one of the best chances of the half when Dallinga turned a close-range header wide of the post, a warning sign Napoli failed to heed.

The turning point came immediately after the restart, with Bologna making a decisive change: Nicolo Cambiaghi replacing the injured Jonathan Rowe.
Manager Italiano masterfully introduced Cambiaghi at the interval. Cambiaghi delivered a precise low drive cross to Dallingha who was unmarked at the near post, executed a deft flick that beat Milinkovic-Savic to open the scoring.
This goal fundamentally altered the complexion of the match.

As the game progressed, Napoli visibly lost their balance and control.
Bologna doubled their advantage in the 66th minute through a brilliantly executed set-piece routine.
Following a free kick, Emil Holm delivered an excellent cross from the right, finding Colombian center-back Jhon Lucumi, who powered home a header from 6 yards for his first ever Serie A goal. The goal showcased Bologna’s set-piece prowess and Napoli’s defensive vulnerabilities at crucial moments.

The Partenopei looked devoid of ideas in the attacking third, unable to create clear-cut opportunities against a well-organized home side.

Aftermath and Conclusion

Napoli appeared clueless in their creative approach and lacked any clinical edge in the final third. The absence of key players clearly affected their rhythm, but the performance raised questions about their depth and tactical flexibility when plan A fails.

The result lifted Italiano’s men to 5th place just one point away from the top of the table, making a top four finish and champions League qualification a realistic ambition.
In their five home matches this season, Bologna had won four times with just one draw, keeping four clean sheets and demonstrating the Dall’Ara as a genuine fortress. Since the beginning of October, Bologna had collected more points than any other Serie A side, accumulating 14 points from 6 matches with 4 wins and 2 draws.

For Napoli, the defeat represented a significant setback in their title aspirations. They dropped to 4th place with 22 points and had already suffered 5 losses across all competitions this season, matching their total for the entire 2024-25 campaign.
Their away form had become particularly concerning, with three defeats in six Serie A road matches already surpassing their two away losses from the entire previous season.
