São Paulo’s 34-year-old Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Júnior, was rushed to the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo earlier today after reports of the midfielder feeling unwell, collapsing and losing consciousness for 2 minutes during the club’s pre-season cardiac tests. The club’s management issued a statement notifying the public that the player is currently “clinically stable and remains under observation for complementary tests for a diagnostic elucidation.”
However, Brazilian news outlet, AllThingsBrazil reported that the pre-season cardiac tests revealed a heart problem. Meanwhile, medical evaluations confirmed heart abnormalities, and he remains stable under observation with testas like catheterization and MRI scheduled. Sources also report a 99% chance of retirement by year’s end in a bid to prioritize health and family.
A Brazilian Hero

Oscar has proven to be one of Brazil’s most enjoyable players with proven records both locally and internationally as per his days at Chelsea, and the entire Seleção sees him as a hero. With stints in China, Oscar has been receiving treatments for the heart condition since August but was cleared to play football. Thus episode has forced him to reconsider his future and the Brazilian is likely to retire from football to focus on recovery although no official decision has been made.
Oscar who last featured for São Paulo in August against Corinthians where he picked up a fractured vertebrae just after 20 minutes of play, took to his instagram to express his gratitude for people’s messages and prayers, “thank you so much for the messages and prayers. Everything will be fine, God willing.”

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, Oscar earned £150m during his spell at China after enjoying a great career at Chelsea, and is well set for retirement as advised by family members. Also, his contract is supposed to run until 2027 but São Paulo is open to an amicable termination if he wishes to retire.
